last days of summer: a great gatsby affair (part 1)

posing with my sister, janey.  this is my version of jazz hands.

Charleston Chews...how fitting!

my soon-to-be brother-in-law, tre and my darling nephew, mason

love this girl dancing.  she makes it look so fun!

more dancing!

can you imagine driving down the street in one of these?

it felt like we were in jay gatsby's backyard.

feathers, pearls, dancing, vintage cars and all-round joy abounded Governor's Island for its bi-annual jazz age lawn party.  it was a swell time.  we found a shady spot under a tree and picnicked on KFC (very 1920's, i know) and mini cupcakes.

i'm usually not a big fan of costume parties (except Halloween, of course) but we all had so much fun!  and we've decided to do it again next year.  only next time, me and janey will dance our little swing routine that we practiced to the Chips Ahoy commercial when we were little. we'll blow these people away with our moves.

more pics to follow tomorrow!

Looks like such a fun party! I always see photos of the Jazz Party on other blogs and wish I could attend!

STOP IT!!!! You need to tell me when this happens. I feel like my friend went last year. LOOOOOVE. So much fun! And any reason to dress up in costume is a good reason for me.

This looks like the best party idea in the world--the costumes, the music, the dancing. I really, really cannot think of anything better! x

The allure and extravagance described sound reminiscent of Gatsby's world.
